A New Year's Resolution quickly evolves...
In December of 2021, Anne Thomas made a New Year's Resolution to stock books in Little Free Libraries in Baton Rouge, LA. She would target the libraries at schools, parks, and community centers in underserved neighborhoods.
The plan was to give free books to children in an effort to foster a love of reading and promote literacy. After a month of stocking about 10 libraries, Anne's New Year's Resolution would evolve. Book donations were arriving on her doorstep steadily and many Little Free Libraries seemed to sit unused and in disrepair leading to book water damage.
Unable to distribute book donations fast enough, Anne started to research non-profits and schools that could take book donations. Baton Rouge Book Drop was founded with a mission to distribute gently-used children's books to Title 1 schools and non-profits that serve youth. Fast forward two years, and BRBD is now a 501c3 corporation that has donated over 9,000 books to over 30 schools, pediatric clinics, hospitals and other non-profits in East Baton Rouge Parish.
